Thomas Jefferson believed that wine was an important part of living well. Besides choosing wines for his own cellars, he stocked George Washington's wine cellar, selecting the best for his fellow Virginian, his friend and President. In a like effort, I have used my experience as a Sommelier to develop a wine for you, my friends and customers. Grand Army Meritage is a salute to its classic European roots in style and flavor. You will find abudant aromas of cherry, cassis, cedar, basil and tobacco in your glass. The flavors of ripe, spicy fruit are balanced with soft tannins and pleasing acidity giving the wine an overall impression of richness of presence of depth. We worked closely with our good friend, winemaker Clark Smith to create this, our flagship red wine that you, in turn, would be proud to serve to your guests. I believe that we got it right.
